1-minute Gmail delay guide

How to delay Gmail send by 1 minute or more

Gmail can schedule a message for later, but it cannot automatically hold every send for one minute. Soft Send adds that safety window, giving you time to edit or cancel before delivery.

Quick answerUse Gmail Schedule send when you want one message delivered at a specific time. Use Soft Send when you want supported Gmail messages automatically held for 1 minute or more after you press Send.

What Gmail offers

Gmail includes Schedule send for messages you want delivered at a chosen date and time. Select the arrow beside Send, choose Schedule send, and select a time. To change it later, open Gmail's Scheduled folder and cancel the scheduled send.

Gmail's separate Undo Send feature only holds a message for 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. It does not provide a built-in setting that delays every email by one minute.

How Soft Send solves the 30-second limit

Soft Send is a Chrome extension that adds an automatic safety delay to supported Gmail messages, including replies. Free includes a 1-minute delay. Pro adds longer and custom delays up to 1 hour.

Set a 1-minute Gmail delay

  1. Install Soft Send from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Authorize its Gmail send access when prompted.
  3. Open Soft Send settings.
  4. Choose a default safety delay, such as 1 or 5 minutes.
  5. Send a test message to yourself and confirm that it appears in the queue.

Important limitation

Soft Send protects Gmail in desktop Chrome after it is installed. Replies, forwards, and messages with attachments remain in their original Gmail composer so Gmail can preserve the thread and files. Keep that tab and draft open until delivery. Soft Send cannot delay messages sent from a phone or another email app.
