How to make Gmail Undo Send longer than 30 seconds

Gmail stops at 30 seconds. Soft Send can hold supported outgoing messages for 1 minute to 1 hour so you have longer to cancel or edit them before delivery.

Quick answerGmail's built-in Undo Send cannot be extended beyond 30 seconds. To make Gmail Undo Send last longer for future messages, Soft Send holds supported outgoing email before delivery for 1 minute to 1 hour, during which you can cancel or edit it.

Undo a Gmail message you just sent

  1. Send your message from Gmail.
  2. Find the “Message sent” notification in the lower-left corner.
  3. Click Undo before the notification disappears.
  4. Gmail reopens the message as a draft.
  5. Correct the message, discard it, or send it again.

The recipient does not receive the message when Undo succeeds. Gmail is cancelling a short delivery delay, not pulling the message out of the recipient's inbox.

How to undo send in the Gmail mobile app

After tapping Send in the Gmail app, tap Undo in the confirmation bar at the bottom of the screen. The action must happen before the bar disappears. The message then opens again as a draft.

You configure the length of the Gmail cancellation period from Gmail on a computer. The selected setting applies to the account.

Set Gmail Undo Send to 30 seconds

  1. Open Gmail on a computer.
  2. Select the gear icon, then See all settings.
  3. Stay in the General tab and find Undo Send.
  4. Set the Send cancellation period to 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and select Save Changes.
Thirty seconds is Gmail's built-in maximum. Google lists the same four cancellation periods in its current Gmail Help documentation.

Why Gmail Undo Send may not appear or work

The cancellation time expired

The Undo link disappears after the selected 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. Once Gmail completes delivery, the ordinary Undo option is no longer available.

You dismissed or left the notification

Opening another message or moving through the interface can remove the confirmation bar. Treat Undo as an immediate action.

You sent from a different email app

Gmail's web interface and Gmail apps provide Gmail Undo Send. A third-party email client can have its own behavior and settings.

You changed the setting but did not save

After choosing 30 seconds, scroll to the bottom of Gmail settings and save the change.

Can you unsend an email in Gmail after 30 seconds?

No, not if the email has already been delivered. Deleting the message from your Sent folder does not delete the recipient's copy. If it contained an error, send a clear correction. If it reached the wrong person and contains sensitive information, follow your organization's security or privacy process.

Searches such as “undo Gmail after 1 minute” or “unsend Gmail after 1 hour” have the same limitation. A tool can only offer that much time by holding the message before delivery.

How to extend Gmail Undo Send time

Soft Send adds a configurable pre-delivery queue to Gmail in desktop Chrome. For supported messages, you send normally and the extension holds the Gmail draft for 1 minute to 1 hour. During that countdown you can cancel, pause, edit, or send immediately.

Local risk checks can add time for patterns such as a new recipient, sensitive wording, a large reply-all group, or text that mentions an attachment when Gmail has no attachment chip.

What happens to messages with attachments?

Soft Send 1.0.1 detects actual file and inline attachments and lets Gmail use its native send flow. This preserves the files and leaves Gmail's configured Undo Send window available. Those messages do not receive the longer Soft Send queue. The missing-attachment warning still works when the message mentions a file but Gmail has no attachment chip.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make Gmail Undo Send longer than 30 seconds?

Gmail itself stops at 30 seconds. Soft Send creates a longer pre-delivery cancellation window for supported messages, from 1 minute to 1 hour.

How long do you have to undo send in Gmail?

Gmail supports 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. The default is commonly 5 seconds, so change the setting if you want the maximum built-in window.

Can the recipient see an email that I successfully undid?

No. When Undo succeeds, Gmail cancels before delivery completes.

Is Undo Send the same as email recall?

No. Undo Send delays delivery briefly. A true recall attempts to remove an already delivered message, which ordinary Gmail does not offer.

Need longer than 30 seconds?

Use a deliberate Gmail safety delay from 1 minute to 1 hour.
