Why “Undo” is not a true recall
When you press Send, Gmail briefly waits before completing delivery. Clicking Undo cancels during that wait. Once delivered, copies may exist on another mail provider, a phone, a desktop client, notifications, backups, or forwarding systems. Gmail cannot guarantee their removal.
What to do if the message was delivered
You sent incorrect information
Reply promptly with a clear correction. Put the corrected fact near the top and avoid a long explanation that makes the error harder to find.
You sent it to the wrong person
Contact the recipient and ask them to delete it. If the message contains company or regulated information, notify the appropriate security, privacy, or legal contact according to your organization's process.
You forgot an attachment
Send a short follow-up with the file. Do not attempt to hide the mistake; a direct correction is faster for everyone.
You regret the tone
Pause before sending another emotional message. A brief acknowledgment and clarification is often safer than compounding the first email.
Prevention is more reliable than recall
A pre-delivery queue keeps the message under your control for longer. Soft Send can hold protected Gmail messages for 1 minute to 1 hour, with cancel, edit, pause, and send-now controls during the countdown.
This does not create recall after delivery. It moves the decision point earlier, when cancellation can still work. Risk detection can add warnings for supported patterns such as new recipients, sensitive wording, large reply-all groups, and possible missing attachments.

Frequently asked questions
Does deleting a sent Gmail message remove it for the recipient?
No. Deleting your copy from Sent or moving it to Trash does not delete the recipient's copy.
Will the recipient know I clicked Undo?
No message is delivered when Undo succeeds during the cancellation window, so there is nothing for the recipient to see.
