Why Gmail stops at 30 seconds
Gmail's “Undo Send” is not a true recall. It briefly postpones delivery after you press Send. Clicking Undo during that period cancels the pending send and returns you to the draft. Google's current settings offer a maximum cancellation period of 30 seconds.
That distinction matters: before delivery, Gmail still controls the pending message. After delivery, the message may already exist on another provider's server or device. Gmail cannot reliably remove it.
What you can do after the 30 seconds expire
If the message was delivered, there is no technical undo button for ordinary Gmail messages. Choose the least harmful response:
- Wrong or missing information: send a concise correction with the accurate details.
- Wrong recipient: ask the recipient to delete the message, without repeating sensitive content.
- Sensitive company information: follow your organization's security or incident process promptly.
- Missing attachment: reply with the attachment and acknowledge the omission briefly.
Can you unsend Gmail after 1 minute or 1 hour?
The answer is still no if Gmail already delivered the message. Searches for “undo Gmail after one minute,” “unsend email after one hour,” and similar phrases describe the same technical limit. Gmail cannot remove an ordinary delivered message from another provider's inbox.
A one-minute or one-hour undo period is only possible when the message is intentionally held before delivery. That protection must be configured before you press Send.
How to get more than 30 seconds next time

Important limitations
Soft Send protects messages sent from Gmail in supported desktop Chrome sessions after the extension is installed and enabled. It cannot reach backward in time, recall previously delivered email, or protect mail sent from an unrelated mobile or desktop client.
In Soft Send 1.0.1, messages with actual file or inline attachments bypass the Soft Send queue and use Gmail's native sending flow. This preserves the files and leaves Gmail's configured Undo Send period available, but it does not provide the longer Soft Send delay for those messages.
